Gs,
I noticed that you had posted, call it up and began reading. I was
impressed that you were listing your equipment. And then, I scrolled
down and continued reading.

GOOD GOD GUY!

You have no reason to go off on RZ or anyone else for that matter!

Let me tell you a story:

When I was kid in grade school, there was a kid that sat in front of me.
He had no arms, legs or body. He was just a head.
He'd bounce his way to the bus stop. Bounce onto the bus and his seat.
Bounce off the bus and into school and onto his chair in class.
There was a girl that sat in front of him he liked to irritate.
He'd bounce up and bite her hair and pull. He would do it all the time.
Finally one day, she turned around and said "You look like a grape".
She picked him up and ate him.

Moral of story:
Quit while you're ahead

Well GS nice that you came here for some quick help, and if it could not be provided well then too bad. Not our fault. We love the sound we get from our G. As for this site. It's family only, and your approach did not get you adopted. Here it's one for all, and all for tellin you to take your animosity somewhere else. When you finally buy one come back and you may just be adopted. Until then BEAT IT!!! Here's a helpful hint though cause I kinda like your vigor. Call yamaha and get some help. That's if they can help your ass at all. Were done with you here. You are the weakest link, "GOODBYE!!!" Very Happy

PS.... I re-edited this post. They say keep it sophisticated. That means my family here doesn't wanna promote violence soooooo. I've removed that portion of words from this post. Still we have no problem with you. If we couldn't be of help here just move it along quietly. You may need our input later on.

A fairwell and ado to you sirs.

Mpep05,
I like you. You're one of the good cops. I agree! Sophisticated it
should be. Unfortunately, beginning with ME perhaps, we were brought
down to an unthinkable level. HIS!
All I can think and feel is how much he has missed out on and how
much he will miss out on in the future. That is assuming of course that
the moderators banish him.
Hesitantly, I would offer up another chance to participate in a group
hug, but somehow I feel I might be alone on that one. That's OK!
It was just a good will offer.

okokok....I'm back up on my chair now.....whoooooohooooo......I hardly know where to start on this one. Laughing I havnt seen this much animosity since our buddy Jeff first showed up...( no offense Jeff..you remember...we all luv ya now.)
Ok..lesseee...who am I rantin' at here..aww shit...ok..here it is...Gsmusic, the Gs stands for...ah..nevermind. Ya know pal, somehow, you've managed to tick off about a half dozen of the main contributors to this site, and now I'm gonna give you a chance to make it seven, if your so inclined. First realize that no one here is obligatied to helping anyone, its all done from the kindness of our collective hearts to help those who we dont feel like trashin' first. Since you've already been duly indoctrinated, I shall not add to that heap. I'm going to try and give you some help here only because you've done nothing to piss me off yet, personally anyways, although I dont take kindly to the nasty things you've said to some of my G bro's.

Before you can solve a problem, you have to realize what the problem is. Before you can expect others to help you with a problem, you have to be able to elequently state the exact nature of that problem, which can require a good bit of research on the part of the questioner. And therein lies the true nature of your difficulties. Honest to god...no one here has any idea specifically where you problem lies. All you've really told us is that your recording sucks and you want to know why, and what to do to make it better....welcome to the club. I did notice that you mentioned that you recorded with some other equipment in the past, also with dubious results, so I doubt that the experience really lends much to your knowledge base of what it takes to produce presentable results.

I'm not gonna read through this entire thread again to see what others actually said, so I'm just gonna wing it from memory here...besides...my sides still hurt from the last time. If your recording from the line outs of your amps, you are NOT going to get a sound that sounds anything like the sound coming out of your amp. Thats because your line outs are dry, and outputted before any of the amps affects and sonic qualities are added in. This is a good thing really, because it allows for more flexibility as far as adding effects in the recording and mixing process. Its also the reason why products like the POD or JStation are popular amongst home recording enthusiasts. The other big part of your problem as I see it so far is TIME. At 130 samolians a week, you just dont really have the time to gain the experience to do the job justice. But there might be a way if your willing to forget about recording direct, and use your microphones instead. Problem here is that when using mics, the room your recording in plays a big role in the final sound, but it still may be the best solution to quickly get a sound that closely resembles what your band sounds like. Besides..demo's dont have to necessarily be professional sounding recordings...just decent enough for a club owner to get a feel. I've done this in the past for my band when we just wanted discs for ourselves to mull over after a practice. Place two mics in x-y in front of the band. Put two mics in x-y above the drums, and put one mic in front of the bass drum. 5 microphones total. Use your bands mixer to route the mics to a stereo pair on the G. If you've only got 4 mics, just put one over the drums. If you've only got 3 mics, then only put one in front of the band.
I know this isnt optimal, but its gonna be the fastest way to get from point A to point B.

If you insist on recording direct from the line outs...then theres going to be a whole other learning curve in terms of proper EQ, dynamics and effects for each of your instruments, and trust me on this one...its more than a week of learning...it can take years to get it right. But if you insist try searching the forum using appropriate keywords and you should find what you're looking for. And for future reference, theres no such thing as a professional quality DAW thats gonna be "push-play-record", but I've a feeling that you've come to realize this already.

I hope this can help get you on your way. If not, please try and be specific and I'll try and give it to you straight. Shocked

Bwahhahahhahah....I got to be the good one,
Tony

hey 60s guy-

that was my point exactly...i'm just at the point where i'm trying to learn the "culture" of this site, if you get what i mean. not everyone responds so well to the sarcasm and such- i'm probably in that group as well, but i try not to take it so personally. as for gs, i think (and gs, you can correct me if i'm wrong) his frustration started when he came in so "under the gun" without really being ready to tackle the machine, and that frustration was compounded by the responses. (geez i sound like dr. brothers). anyway, i was sorry to see you guys sink to another level, and (not that it matters) i was impressed by your ability to rise above it. great stuff goes on in this place- some of it even involves the AW16G. Rolling Eyes
HEY GS- let us know if we can help- and let us know how it turns out.

gsmusic,

Not to be an asshole.jerk, but one cannot win an "arguement" until one learns how to spell argument.

While we're at it, the statement "I'm not no upper class American" is what we like to call a "double negative" and, in effect, you are stating that you are, indeed, an upper class American.

By the way, my car is peachy keen, my house is dreamy and my neighborhood is a picture postcard wonderland. Thanks for asking.

Hey, GS. I think you are kinda heroic. Aye, I can just tell. I'm fascinated that you acquired the pugilistic spirit to overcome the damnable injustice that you face in your life. That terrible injustice of being born inside a body categorically destined for exclusion from the worlds riches.

Damn, bro, a car that sucks? I feel your angst.

Hi GS

Firstly the truth is that you are absolutely correct in your assumption that you don’t have to read the manual –

There is a small switch at the back of the unit near the posi-phonic multi array – all you need to do is ensure that this switch is set to the T.W.A.T position.

Once this is accomplished then it doesn’t matter what you plug into the G, or indeed where you plug it, your recording will be exactly how you imagined it.

Yamaha decided not to put this in the manual as a sort of post-modernist joke , also the powers that be in the upper echelons of the corporation get their shits and giggles from reading the newbie forum here.

There are people who will tell you that this switch is a figment of my imagination but I use it about 50% of the time.

Unfortunately I can only seem to find the switch after partaking of rather more than the recommended alcohol intake levels.

However, having read your posts I’m sure that you’ll be able to find it when sober.

Selah

Sleepless.
